Weeding and seeding

Image
Pictures above are images taken by team member Destany. She took some of her own time to work on the plot. The images can be compared before and after weeding, which Destany did. She also direct seeded some peas. We are looking forward to how they turn out. We are also planning to do more with this area of the plot and are working out some ideas in mind.

May the tomatoes climb

Image
Team member Lauren took some of her own time to aid these tomato plants. She staked, suckered, and tied the tomatoes to bamboo sticks. Hopefully , the tomato plants will soon find their way up and around the bamboo. They are also looking great, we are looking forward to harvest these.

The seeds arrival

Image
After a short wait, our seeds are here! This bag contains our pea and carrot seeds. Carrots was another crop that every individual in our group wanted. We are planning to plant these seeds very soon. We are also very excited that these finally arrived.  Out of all the crops, we mostly look forward to the corn and carrots.

Corn

Image
Out of all the crops, corn was one that everyone in our group wanted. It was also the first thing we planted. As can be seen here, it is doing great. So far there seems to be no signs of deficiency, pests, or viruses in this batch. We are very happy with how they look so up to date.

Basil and strawberries

Image
As shown above, this is a photo update of the basil and strawberries. They seem to be growing beautifully and for the most part, are not showing any negative signs. Although the strawberries are showing some discoloration. So far those are the only specific crops showing any discoloration. The rest of the crops are looking fantastic.

Seedlings

Image
The plant starts that can be seen above are the Marigolds. Both Destany and Joshua F worked on those. As shown, all of them successfully germinated except for one. We were excited to see that they were almost all successful. As for the second picture with the seeds, this was done by team member Destany. She sowed some sunflower seeds in the greenhouse and found out that some other team members were having trouble with this because it was not direct sowing.

Pest control

Image
These photos were taken by team member Destany . This is a brassicaceae weed from the mustard family. We did not plant this, but its interesting that its very beneficial to the garden. Attracting tons of pollinators and is a favorite to the Harlequin bug (orange beetle) which is a huge pest for strawberries (they choose to eat the mustard over the strawberries) so it helps to control them as pests for our crops

Weeding

Image
Team member Joshua P. took some of his time to do some well needed weeding . As can be seen, some weeds have been accumulating in our plot. This can become a bigger issue if left untouched. Maintenence in many forms should be done on the plots. Shown above, a section can be shown with weeds versus after the weeds were removed.
